Hi, I’m Pat McNamara

I am a Physiotherapist and running coach, specialising in treating and managing runners in Australia and worldwide.

Running is how I have explored the world. Through running, I have met my closest friends, and it’s how I get my fix of adventure, serenity and adrenaline. I will be a lifelong runner.

I grew up as a Rugby player, dabbling in athletics throughout high school. After high school, I found my way into long distance running and now in my 30’s, I have run 50+ marathons over 15 years, with a recent PB of 2hr31. I have competed in ultra marathons around the world, Ironman triathlons, and ocean swims. Along this journey I have always prioritised enjoyment, health and fun over performance. I have found my own blend of competitiveness vs. enjoyment, and I encourage all runners to do the same.

Prior to becoming a physiotherapist I spent 3 years in the running footwear industry. I am a running ambassador for ASICS Australia, and a qualified running coach. I formerly ran a podcast for 3years “That’s Running”.

I believe running is a vehicle for a rewarding and fulfilling life. It has tremendous benefits for your physical / social / mental / emotional / spiritual health than cannot be overstated.

I am passionate about helping runners with actual real-world, science-backed advice. Social media and the internet is a wild place full of misinformation of overly complex systems, exercises and theories. Through my own experiences, my studies and my work as a running-specific physio, I have developed a real niche in simplifying and breaking down all the rubbish that’s out there when it comes to running.

WHAT MOTIVATES ME?

  • Statistically, around 50% of runners get injured each year. More so the newer runners.

  • A lot of people are led to believe running is not “for them”, or it’s bad for their joints.

  • A lot of runners have been told by doctors or clinicians to stop or do less, which is very very rarely necessary.

  • There is so much poor, overly complex and sometimes harmful information online.

  • Running offers so much for everyone, I want to help all runners get the most out of themselves, and get the most out of this beautiful sport and way of life.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Whether it’s physiotherapy help with a certain injury, running technique optimisation, general injury prevention, footwear advice, help with a training plan, or full-time coaching, I am well positioned to offer help and assistance to all runners.

I pride myself on being quite flexible and adaptive. If you’re unsure how I can help or how we can work together, let’s have a chat!

The Hundred Miler

I was lucky enough to run UTMB in 2019 with two mates.

171km through the Alps in France, Italy and Switzerland.

My brilliant film-maker friends filmed the adventure, and made this film.

This is my magnum opus. Enjoy.
